Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Starlight Express is back in the spotlight with The Deluxe Edition, released on 30 May 2025. This version brings together the energy of the current 2024/25 London production and a fresh set of eight specially-commissioned remixes of the show’s best-loved songs. Here are five things to know about it:

1. Eight iconic tracks get a remix makeover
The album features eight remixes that rework classic Starlight Express songs with a modern sound. Hudson Mohawke, fresh from producing tracks for Charli XCX, puts his stamp on “The Race.” Other highlights include the Rusty remix of “Starlight Express,” the Hydra remix of “Hydrogen,” and new versions of “Make Up My Heart,” “Pumping Iron,” and “AC/DC.”

2. Limited edition CDs for each team
If you’re into collecting, there are three limited edition CDs available – each themed around different characters:

• Rusty & Hydra Edition includes “Starlight Express (Rusty Remix)” and “Hydrogen (Hydra Remix)”
• Greaseball & Dinah Edition includes “Pumping Iron (Greaseball Remix)” and “I Am Me (Dinah Remix)”
• Electra & Pearl Edition includes “AC/DC (Electra Remix)” and “Make Up My Heart (Pearl Remix)”

All three versions also feature “The Race (Hudson Mohawke Rework)” and “Whistle At Me (Remix).”

3. Fans can join the Remix Race
To add a bit of fun, fans are being encouraged to support their favourite characters by streaming their editions. The most-played team will be crowned champion on 6 June 2025. It’s a clever way to get the audience involved in the new release.

You don’t need a CD player to enjoy the new remixes – Starlight Express: The Deluxe Edition is available now on all major platforms. Stream it on Spotify or Apple Music.

5. It ties in with the new London production
These remixes sit alongside the 2024/25 London cast recording, which captures the reworked version of Starlight Express now running at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre. The show’s been reimagined with updated choreography, a new set design, and now, a new sound to match.
