5 Reasons Pierre Novellie Could Be One of the Hottest Comedy Tickets at the Edinburgh Fringe

If you’ve ever found yourself laughing at something completely ridiculous before realising Pierre Novellie has somehow made a brilliant point in the process, you’re not alone.

The award-winning comedian, author, broadcaster and podcast host is returning to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer with not one but two shows. Whether you’re a long-time fan or discovering him for the first time, here are five reasons to make room in your Fringe schedule.

1. He’s Bringing a Brand-New Hour of Stand-Up

Pierre’s new show, Okay, One More Then Bedtime, promises the clever observations, unexpected tangents and brilliantly crafted punchlines that have made him one of the most respected comics on the circuit.

From food and modern life to the strange thoughts that keep us awake at night, the show combines everyday experiences with Pierre’s uniquely analytical and hilarious perspective.

2. Fans Can Finally Hear Their Favourite Routines Again

For years, audience members have shouted, “Do the one about…”

This Fringe, Pierre is giving them exactly what they’ve been asking for.

His second show, Do The One About…, is a special best-of hour packed with some of the most loved material from more than a decade of stand-up. It’s a rare chance to see the routines that helped build his reputation as one of Britain’s finest joke writers all in one place.

3. He’s Enjoying a Huge Moment Right Now

Pierre’s star continues to rise.

His BBC Radio 4 series Why in the Name of Pierre Novellie? proved such a success that it was renewed for a second series before the first had even finished airing. He’s also recently launched Audible UK’s new gameshow Booksmart and published his acclaimed book Why Can’t I Just Enjoy Things? A Comedian’s Guide to Autism.

Add in his popular podcasts BudPod and Button Boys, and it’s clear that audiences can’t get enough of his unique take on the world.

4. Critics Absolutely Love Him

Reviewers have run out of ways to say how funny Pierre Novellie is.

The Guardian called him a “master of traditional stand-up”, while The Times praised his “ingenious routines”. Metro awarded him five stars for comedy that is “packed full of belly laughs”, and The Scotsman described spending an hour in his company as a privilege.

Even more impressively, his 2024 Fringe show was named among the best-reviewed shows at the festival, marking the fourth time he has achieved the feat.

5. He Consistently Sells Out Shows

Pierre’s audiences continue to grow with every tour.

His previous show, Must We?, sold out its entire Edinburgh Fringe run before going on to enjoy a successful London season at Soho Theatre. His latest UK and Ireland tour became his biggest yet, selling twice as many tickets as the previous one and adding extra dates due to overwhelming demand.

With two shows on offer at this year’s Fringe, comedy fans would be wise not to leave booking until the last minute.
