London Theatre | 11 November – 5 December 2026
The full cast has been announced for Relative Motion, a gripping new play by British-South African writer Stephanie Greenwood. It runs in the Little auditorium at Southwark Playhouse Borough from 11 November to 5 December.
Here are five reasons to book.
1. A love story that turns dark
Sam, a physics student, and Paul, an aspiring novelist, meet by chance on a London commuter train, and it grows into an unexpected romance. But as their relationship gathers momentum, small compromises and shifting power dynamics start to appear, gradually revealing the development of coercive control. It’s a story many people will recognise, told in a way that shows how easily the warning signs can be missed.
2. Physics as a way to understand love
The play cleverly uses Isaac Newton’s laws of motion, from momentum and collisions to action and reaction, as a framework for exploring the forces at work between two people. It’s an original, thought-provoking idea that gives the story a fresh angle.
3. Romance, thriller and black comedy in one
Relative Motion blends romantic comedy, psychological thriller and black comedy, so expect to laugh as well as feel uneasy. It asks how easy it is to lose sight of the moment a relationship begins to change, and examines the stories we tell ourselves about love, memory and perspective.
4. A strong two-person cast
Stephanie Greenwood both wrote the play and stars as Sam. Her previous plays, It’s Beautiful, Over There and How Not to Fund a Honeymoon, earned four- and five-star reviews. She’s joined by Sean Hart as Paul, whose screen credits include Disney+’s A Small Light, Harlots and The Devil’s Hour, and who returns to Southwark Playhouse after his acclaimed 2019 performance in Afterglow. It’s directed by award-winning Wiebke Green.
5. Great-value tickets
Tickets start from £22, with concessions from £18 and previews at £16. The very first performance on 11 November is a Pioneers’ Preview at just £10. The play is recommended for ages 14+, and Southwark Playhouse is one of London’s best venues for new writing.
