How to Plan the Perfect Group Ski Trip Without the Stress

Planning a skiing holiday can throw up a succession of logistical challenges. If you’re travelling with a group, things can get complicated relatively quickly. So, how do you approach this problem without causing yourself additional stress?

Start with a clear group brief

To begin with, you’ll need to decide on the fundamentals. When do you intend to travel, and how much can each of you afford to spend? If you can’t communicate this information, then your holiday will be doomed from the start.

It’s worth taking a relatively centralised approach, here. Allow one person to take explicit responsibility for booking and organising everything. This will allow you to be decisive, and to avoid getting bogged down in endless discussion.

Choose the right resort

The resort you choose will have a major impact on the quality of your skiing experience. If you’re travelling with a mixture of skill levels, then you’ll need somewhere that will entertain beginners and experts alike, while allowing everyone to get together in the evening for apres-ski. France tends to be the go-to option, thanks to a wealth of features, and expansive resorts in the Three Valleys area. The larger your group, the more difficult you’ll find it to book accommodation. If you want a single large French chalet for your group skiing holidays, then the best approach might be to book quickly.

Build a realistic budget

When you set out your budget, you should be aware of every reasonable cost you’ll incur. Start with the maximum that you’re willing to spend, and break everything down into travel, accommodation, insurance, lift passes, equipment hire, tuition, and transfers.

Your budget should provide you with room to cope with unexpected expenses. An extra 10% might provide you with wriggle room to cope with surprises – and save you from having to ask for money from your fellow travellers.

Book early and plan logistics

Certain times of year tend to be enormously popular among skiers. After all, the skiing season lasts for only a few months, and your commitments with work and school might narrow your opportunity significantly. This also applies to everyone else booking a skiing holiday – with the result that demand spikes significantly over key holiday dates, like the February half term.

Make sure that you know exactly when and where you’re going to hire your equipment, and that everything from your accommodation to your ski school is planned in advance, to the greatest extent possible. This might allow you to avoid disappointment later on.
