5 Things to Know About the Royal Marsden’s 90th Anniversary Gala Concert

On Monday 20 October 2025, Cadogan Hall in London will host a very special evening: a gala concert celebrating 90 years of Friends of the Royal Marsden, Chelsea. From moving performances to powerful stories of hope, here are five things you need to know about this milestone event.

1. A Celebration of 90 Years of Service

The Friends of the Royal Marsden began life in 1935 as the Ladies’ Association, a small group dedicated to supporting the hospital. From handing out Christmas presents to patients to running the canteen and garden, their work has blossomed into an award-winning charity. Today, more than 170 volunteers give around 20,000 hours a year to support the hospital and raise funds – contributing about £250,000 annually.

2. A Star-Studded Line-Up

The evening will feature a glittering array of performers. Hosting is Dominic Ferris, pianist, singer, and Steinway & Sons Ambassador, who will also perform alongside Elwin Hendrijanto as The Piano Brothers. Other highlights include:

  • No.1 vocal group Blake
  • West End soprano Georgi Mottram
  • Colin Thackery MBE, Britain’s Got Talent winner
  • Soloists Joseph & Benjamin from the Libera Choir
  • The Chelsea Pensioner Singers
  • Royal Philharmonic Orchestra guest leader Stephen Morris
  • Glyndebourne’s Jack Redman

Expect timeless classics, from You Raise Me Up to I Dreamed a Dream and What a Wonderful World.

3. Stories That Bring History to Life

Guest readers will reflect on the charity’s history and achievements through moving short readings. Confirmed names include Lord Jeffrey Archer, Sophia Money-Coutts, Dr Sian Williams, and John Butler, with recorded contributions from Annabel Croft and Charlotte Ritchie. These voices will highlight the evolution of the Friends and the impact of their volunteers.

4. Honouring the Volunteers

In 2019, the Friends were awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest UK honour for a volunteer group. Many of those involved give back because of their personal connection to the hospital.

“The Marsden saved my life in 2015 and like many volunteers I joined to make a difference.” — Sarah Phipps, Vice Chair

The 90th Anniversary Gala Concert takes place at Cadogan Hall, Sloane Terrace, London, SW1X 9DQ, on Monday 20 October at 7pm. Tickets are priced at £55, which includes a special edition concert programme.
