Calling all composers, lyricists, songwriters, and playwrights! The Surrey Musical Theatre Development Programme is back for its second year – and applications are now open for the 2025 intake. If you’re based in Surrey and ready to grow your musical theatre career, here are five reasons to apply today.
1. Be Part of Surrey’s Most Exciting Musical Theatre Initiative
After a stellar first year – including a Royal performance for HRH Prince Edward and a showcase hosted by lexicographer and Woking native Susie Dent – this producer-led initiative is again shining a spotlight on local talent. It’s a rare and brilliant opportunity for emerging writers in the region.
2. Free, 10-Month Programme Led by Theatre Professionals
The programme runs fortnightly on Mondays (4–7pm) at The Ambassadors Woking and is completely free to join. You’ll be guided by producer Neil Marcus, whose credits include Cable Street and the Stiles & Drewe Best New Song Prize. The sessions offer collaborative workshops, writing tasks, and expert mentorship.
3. Showcase Your Work on a Professional Stage
Selected participants will have the opportunity to perform their material in a live showcase at the 220-seat Rhoda McGaw Theatre. The 2025 cohort will co-create a brand-new musical based on a group of writers meeting in Woking — a story that mirrors their real-life journey.
4. Learn from Guest Practitioners and West End Talent
Throughout the programme, guest artists from the worlds of theatre, music and live performance will visit to share insights, offer feedback, and help shape your writing. It’s not only a learning experience but a professional networking opportunity too.
5. Apply by Monday 25th August
If you’re based in Surrey, have at least one professional credit, and can commit to Monday sessions in Woking, apply now. Send a short bio and sample of your work to WokingMarketing@atgentertainment.com. If you’d prefer to perform your work in person, just email to arrange a time.
Deadline: Monday 25th August 2025
This unique programme is supported by ATG Entertainment and produced in partnership with Write Me A Song Ltd and The Ambassadors Woking.
