Gran Canaria is better known for beaches, volcanic landscapes and year-round sunshine, but the island also has an increasingly impressive food scene. Its Michelin-starred restaurants range from relaxed coastal dining in the south to ambitious tasting menus in Las Palmas.
These are not inexpensive meals, and most require booking well in advance, but each offers something different. Here are five Michelin-starred restaurants worth considering during a Gran Canaria holiday.
1. La Aquarela – Patalavaca
La Aquarela has one of the most attractive settings on the list. It sits beside the sea in Patalavaca, close to Anfi del Mar, with views across the water that are particularly impressive around sunset.
The cooking is modern but strongly connected to the Canary Islands. Local fish, seafood, meat, cheese and island wines feature across its tasting menus, with careful presentation and thoughtful flavour combinations.
It is also one of the most convenient Michelin-starred restaurants for visitors staying in Meloneras, Maspalomas, Puerto Rico or Mogán. Try to book an early evening table so you can enjoy the view before it gets dark.
2. Los Guayres – Puerto de Mogán
Los Guayres is found inside the Hotel Cordial Mogán Playa, surrounded by gardens and traditional Canarian-style architecture. Although it is part of a hotel, the restaurant feels like a destination in its own right.
The food takes familiar Canarian ingredients and presents them in a more refined and contemporary way. Atlantic fish, local meat, vegetables, cheeses and gofio may all appear on the menu.
The atmosphere is elegant without feeling overly formal, making it a good choice for an anniversary, birthday or special holiday meal. It is also easy to reach from the main resorts in the south of the island.
3. Tabaiba – Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
Tabaiba is a small, modern restaurant close to Las Canteras beach in Las Palmas. It describes its approach as evolutionary Canarian cuisine, taking traditional flavours and ingredients in new and sometimes surprising directions.
This is probably the most experimental restaurant on the list. Guests should expect a tasting-menu experience rather than a conventional choice of starters, main courses and desserts.
Some dishes may challenge expectations, so it is best suited to curious diners who enjoy creative food. Its location makes it easy to combine dinner with a walk along Las Canteras or a full day exploring Las Palmas.
4. Poemas by Hermanos Padrón – Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
Poemas by Hermanos Padrón is located inside the Santa Catalina, a Royal Hideaway Hotel, one of the island’s most historic and luxurious hotels.
The restaurant has a polished, formal atmosphere, with carefully presented dishes that combine Canarian produce with international techniques. Fish and seafood play an important role, although the menus usually include a wider range of local ingredients.
Poemas is a good option for travellers who want a traditional luxury dining experience, with attentive service and an impressive setting. It can also be combined with drinks or an overnight stay at the Santa Catalina.
5. Muxgo – Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
Muxgo is also located at the Santa Catalina hotel, but it offers a very different experience from Poemas. Chef Borja Marrero places sustainability, farming and the landscape of Gran Canaria at the centre of the restaurant.
Many ingredients come from or are connected to his organic farm in Tejeda. Local corn, vegetables, fruit, cheeses and seasonal produce are used to tell a wider story about the island.
Muxgo is not simply about elaborate presentation. The menu focuses on where the food comes from, how it is produced and how traditional Canarian ingredients can be used with minimal waste. It holds both a Michelin star and a Michelin Green Star for its approach to sustainable dining.
Which Gran Canaria Michelin-starred restaurant should you choose?
For visitors staying in Meloneras, Maspalomas or Puerto Rico, La Aquarela and Los Guayres are the easiest options to reach. Both offer a special meal without requiring a long journey to the north of the island.
Tabaiba is the best choice for adventurous diners, Poemas offers the most traditional luxury experience, and Muxgo stands out for its strong focus on sustainability and local produce.
Whichever restaurant you choose, check the current menu, prices, opening days and dress expectations before booking. Tasting menus can last several hours, so these restaurants are best treated as the main event of the evening rather than a quick dinner.
