5 Reasons to Book An Exclusive Evening with Lang Lang at Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul

There are concerts, there are special dinners – and then there are evenings that manage to combine the two. On Monday 7 September 2026, Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul is bringing together internationally acclaimed pianist Lang Lang, Cantonese fine dining and one of Istanbul’s most memorable waterfront settings for a one-night-only event at Shang Palace.

If Istanbul is on your travel list this September, here are five reasons this could be an evening worth building a trip around.

1. Hear Lang Lang in a genuinely intimate setting

Lang Lang normally performs in major concert halls and with some of the world’s leading orchestras, so the scale of this event is part of its appeal. Rather than sitting among thousands of people in an auditorium, guests will attend a private cocktail reception featuring an exclusive 15-minute piano performance by Lang Lang.

The evening begins at 7.30pm, with the reception and performance scheduled until 8pm. It is a very different way to experience one of classical music’s most recognisable performers – closer, smaller and tied into the atmosphere of the hotel rather than a conventional concert venue.

For piano and classical music fans, that alone makes this a rather unusual Istanbul date.

2. Stay for an extraordinary Cantonese dinner

The piano performance is only the beginning.

From 8pm until 10pm, the evening moves into a multi-course Cantonese dinner at Shang Palace, the hotel’s signature Chinese restaurant.

The menu is curated by Chinese Head Chef Cheng Lu and is designed as a culinary counterpart to the music, with carefully selected wine pairings accompanying the courses.

Expect something far removed from a standard pre-theatre dinner. Details released for the event include dishes such as scallop with Oscietra caviar, coral grouper, seafood fried rice with black truffle and a jasmine tea crème brûlée.

The set menu costs TRY 8,888 per person, and Shangri-La says seating is limited and advance booking is required.

3. Enjoy one of Istanbul’s great locations

The venue makes a difference.

Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul sits beside the Bosphorus in the Beşiktaş district, with many of its rooms overlooking the water. It is also around a 15-minute walk from Dolmabahçe Palace, making it a particularly good base if you want to turn the event into a short Istanbul break.

There is something fitting about hearing a pianist whose career has crossed musical and cultural boundaries in Istanbul – a city famously positioned between Europe and Asia.

Arrive early enough to enjoy the waterfront surroundings before the 7.30pm reception rather than treating this simply as a dinner reservation.

4. Turn it into a luxury Istanbul stay

For those travelling specifically for the event, Shangri-La has also created a Lang Lang Stay Experience.

The package combines accommodation at the hotel with the private cocktail reception, Lang Lang performance and Cantonese dinner, plus breakfast at IST TOO. The hotel is advertising the package from around US$1,537 for three nights, although rates will depend on room choice and availability.

It turns what could have been a single night out into a proper Istanbul escape: Bosphorus views, breakfast the following morning and enough time either side of the event to explore the city.

5. Make a September weekend of Istanbul

Perhaps the best argument for booking is that the event gives you a reason to make a trip of it.

Shangri-La Bosphorus is in Beşiktaş, putting guests within easy reach of the Bosphorus waterfront and Dolmabahçe Palace while still offering access to the wider sights of Istanbul.

Spend the daytime exploring the city, return to the hotel to get ready, then begin the evening with cocktails and Lang Lang at 7.30pm before settling in for dinner at Shang Palace.

It is undeniably a special-occasion experience rather than an inexpensive night out. But combining a private performance from Lang Lang, a multi-course dinner, wine pairings and a Bosphorus-side setting makes this considerably more distinctive than simply buying a concert ticket.
