Heads at the Tower – A Retrospective by Royal Sculptor Frances Segelman

Over 20 celebrities will gather at on 25 October 2016, each with a unique bust of themselves by royal sculptor Frances Segelman, as part of a major retrospective of her work being held in aid of the Jack Petchey Back to Work Fund for the Stroke Association. The event will take place at the Tower of London.
A pantheon of royals and notables are featured in this exhibition of life-like bronze sculptures by Frances Segelman, which sees HM The Queen, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and HRH The Prince of Wales, sit alongside entertainment stars Sir Bruce Forsyth, Honor Blackman and Elaine Paige.

Downton Abbey creator Lord Julian Fellowes, whose sculpture by Frances Segelman is being unveiled for the first time said, “I am thrilled to have been sculpted by Frances, I admire her work very much and feel flattered to be included at this unique event celebrating the work of the Stroke Association.”

The cross-section of famous faces being exhibited includes Frances Segelman’s latest sculpture of recently appointed Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson. The political spectrum is also represented by figures such as Lord David Owen,Lord William Hague and Cherie Blair, and the world of sports sees the likes of Linford Christie, Terry Venebles and Sven-Göran Ericsson. Other stars being showcased include Sir Derek Jacobi, Dame Antoinette Sibley and Dame Edna Everage.

Writer Ari Franklinos said “Inspired by Michelangelo Frances has dedicated herself to creating bronze busts of her subjects which capture their immediacy and likeness. Her creations are realistic sculptures with a purity that invites the viewer to ponder on the face and inner thoughts that emanate from the work, the eyes, the faint lines on the skin. Her busts provide a classic vision of harmony and peace.”
Frances Segelman intends to create a live sculpture as part of this event with a celebrity sitter yet to be announced, she said “I have sculpted over 100 busts of the great and the good during my career. In my role as Ambassador for the Stroke Association I am delighted to help raise awareness for the incredible work this charity does to support those whose lives have been devastated by Stroke.”
“Queen of Harps” Catrin Finch will give a harp recital during the exhibition and the event will include a display of artworks featuring artists Josette Aitman, Victoria Perloff and Simon Tarrant.
