Award-winning podcast The Guilty Feminist is returning to the Royal Albert Hall to celebrate International Women’s Day, eight years after its sold-out debut in the main auditorium. Here are five things to know.
1. A starry line-up
Host Deborah Frances-White is joined by Olivia Colman, Indira Varma, Sindhu Vee, Jessica Hynes, Juliet Stevenson, Susan Wokoma, Bridget Christie and author Katherine Stewart. Internet sensation Cody Dahler will also perform an exclusive sketch about the manosphere.
2. The Road to Gilead
The show takes its name from Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. Through stand-up, music and conversation, it explores how we can come together to create positive change, with a focus on “joyful resistance” against gender inequality.
3. A venue with suffragette history
Emmeline Pankhurst gave her famous “incite this meeting to rebellion” speech at the Royal Albert Hall in 1912, which makes it a fitting stage for an International Women’s Day show.
4. One of the world’s biggest podcasts
Since launching in 2015, The Guilty Feminist has had more than 200 million downloads and has been recorded live at the London Palladium and the Sydney Opera House. Deborah Frances-White says this will be their biggest event yet.
5. Tickets on sale tomorrow
Tickets start from £25 and go on sale at 10am on Wednesday 14 October, with Royal Albert Hall Friends and Patrons getting priority booking 24 hours earlier.
