5 Things to Know About Porridge on Stage, the New Adaptation Touring the UK in 2027

Theatre | UK tour, September – November 2027

Fletcher and Godber are back behind bars. A brand-new stage adaptation of Porridge, one of Britain’s greatest TV comedies, will tour the UK next year. Here are five things to know.

1. Back inside HMP Slade

Join career criminal Fletcher and his wide-eyed cellmate Godber as they navigate life inside Her Majesty’s Prison Slade with wit, wisdom and the occasional dodgy scheme, alongside Mr Mackay and Mr Barrowclough.

2. Approved by the original writers

Porridge was created by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, the duo behind The Likely Lads, Auf Wiedersehen, Pet and the film The Commitments. Clement jokes that if audiences feel confined, they can always make a run for it.

3. A cast of just three

All the much-loved characters and memorable moments are brought to life by a talented cast of just three actors, with casting still to be announced. It’s adapted and directed by Samuel Freeman.

4. From a proven touring team

It’s produced by The Production Garden, whose hits include Eric & Ern, Private Peaceful and the Offie-winning Why I Stuck A Flare Up My Arse For England, so it should be in safe hands.

5. Tickets go on sale this Friday

The tour opens in Bath on 9 September 2027 and visits more than 20 venues, including Salisbury, Peterborough, Ipswich, Sheffield, Buxton and Hertford, finishing on 12 November. General sale opens on Friday 16 October. It’s a great Christmas gift for fans of the show.
