New British feature film Trapped is set to make a huge impact this autumn. Directed by Roland Manookian (EastEnders, Castle in the Sky), this hard-hitting drama explores the devastating reality of domestic abuse and one woman’s fight for survival and freedom. Here are five things to know before its UK premiere.
1. The Story is Raw, Real and Emotionally Gripping
Trapped follows the journey of Raye, a woman caught in an abusive relationship. The film captures her struggle to escape and rebuild her life while shining a light on the far-reaching effects of violence and trauma. It’s an emotional, thought-provoking portrayal of strength, resilience, and hope.
2. An Exceptional British Cast
The film stars Gina Jones (Alleycats), Shane McCormick (Rise of the Footsoldier series), Craig Fairbrass, Geoff Bell, and Simon Manyonda (Rye Lane, Pennyworth), alongside a stellar supporting cast including Eddie Webber, Kadeem Ramsay (Top Boy), and Aimée Hills (The Bystanders).
3. Created by a Team of Industry Talent
Trapped is produced by Shane McCormick’s new company, Move Mountains Production, in partnership with actor, producer and writer Josh Witcher. The screenplay was written by Roland Manookian and developed from an original story by Witcher. The film is distributed by Blue-Eyes Film and Distribution and has already attracted international attention.
4. Paying Tribute to British Cinema Classics
The film pays homage to Gary Oldman’s Nil by Mouth and shares its unflinching portrayal of life behind closed doors. Like its predecessor, Trapped uses powerful performances and real-life storytelling to highlight the cycle of abuse and the importance of breaking free from it.
