Explore the Beetle Lifecycle with Mark from ‘The Insect Farm’
From 20 July to 1 September, visitors to the Stratford Butterfly Farm have a unique opportunity to dive into the captivating world of beetles. Mark, a professional entomologist from ‘The Insect Farm,’ will be available on select dates to discuss and showcase the beetle lifecycle with live specimens. Don’t miss his sessions on 20 & 25 July, and 3, 7, and 28 August at 11am in the Discovery Zone. This is a fantastic chance to interact with a beetle expert and gain a deeper appreciation for these incredible insects.
Understanding the Diversity of Beetles
Beetles are the most diverse group of insects, boasting over 300,000 known species worldwide, with 4,000 found in Britain alone. These insects exhibit a remarkable range in size and diet, making them one of the most adaptable and interesting groups in the animal kingdom. Beetles possess six jointed legs and three main body parts, showcasing a variety of forms and functions. Visitors will learn about their unique characteristics and ecological roles during Mark’s presentations.
Make a Green Promise
This summer, Stratford Butterfly Farm is encouraging visitors to make a positive impact on nature by writing a green pledge. These pledges, which can be carried out at home, school, or work, will be entered into a weekly prize draw for a chance to win a family season ticket to the Butterfly Farm. Jane Kendrick, Marketing Manager at Stratford Butterfly Farm, emphasises the importance of protecting these fascinating creatures and invites everyone to join in making a commitment to nature conservation.
Daily Mini-Beast Handling and Butterfly Life-Cycle Demonstrations
In addition to the beetle-focused events, the Butterfly Farm offers daily Mini-Beast handling sessions and Butterfly Life-Cycle demonstrations at 11am in the Discovery Zone. Visitors can witness the incredible transformation from egg to adult butterfly and have the opportunity to handle a variety of stick insects. These hands-on experiences are perfect for families and insect enthusiasts eager to learn more about the diverse world of invertebrates.
