In an enthralling development for the London theatre scene, Daniel Bravo, currently receiving accolades for his role as Sebastien Valmont in ‘Cruel Intentions’ at The Other Palace, has joined forces with Jessica Pardoe to unveil a captivating duet titled ‘When I Look In The Mirror’. This piece is a highlight of a newly released six-song EP from the eagerly awaited British musical, ‘Soho Dreams’.
Set against the transformative backdrop of 1980s London, amidst the socio-political upheaval of Thatcherism and Scotland Yard’s endeavours to eradicate corruption, ‘Soho Dreams’ emerges as a narrative rich in contrast and character depth. The musical explores the essence of Soho, a district synonymous with freedom and the possibility of assuming any identity at will. The duet by Bravo and Pardoe masterfully encapsulates the conflicting sentiments of their characters towards Soho. Michael, portrayed by Bravo, harbours a deep-seated aversion to the district, whereas Pardoe’s Sammy is deeply enamoured with its vibrancy and potential.
The release of the EP was commemorated with a behind-the-scenes video, offering fans a glimpse into Bravo and Pardoe’s initial recording session together, under the adept guidance of Musical Director Ryan Mackenzie. This collaboration not only showcases their vocal synergy but also highlights the thematic and emotional depth of ‘Soho Dreams’.
Launched by Bucks Records, part of the Bucks Music Group, the EP is now available across major streaming platforms including Spotify and Apple Music. It features an array of compelling tracks that promise to captivate listeners, from ‘Burning Bridges’ performed by Barry Keenan, to Jessica Pardoe’s soul-stirring renditions in ‘Show Me The Door’, ‘This Is My Life’, and ‘Child’.
The musical score of ‘Soho Dreams’, enriched by the dynamic shifts in the musical landscape from punk to New Romantic and the Quincy Jones era, is the brainchild of Composer Mark Russell. Russell, renowned for his contributions across various media platforms and nominated for prestigious awards, imbues the production with a sense of authenticity and vibrant energy.
As ‘Soho Dreams’ continues to evolve, with workshops conducted in Manchester and London and a full stage production on the horizon, the anticipation amongst theatre enthusiasts and critics alike is palpable. With a storyline that delves into the heart of Soho’s complexity and allure, accompanied by a soundtrack that captures the era’s eclectic musical essence, ‘Soho Dreams’ is poised to become a milestone in British theatre.
