5 Things to Know About Nevermore, the Edgar Allan Poe Musical Coming to Charing Cross Theatre

London Theatre | 19 July – 9 October 2027

Quoth the raven… Nevermore: The Imaginary Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe, an acclaimed Canadian musical play, is coming to Charing Cross Theatre next summer, and tickets are on sale now. Here are five things to know.

1. Poe’s darkest story was his own

One rainy night, Poe boards a steamship bound for New York, but never reaches his destination. Instead, the journey takes him deep into memory and imagination, through a life of ambition, love, loss and grief.

2. Echoes of his famous tales

The show weaves together biography, fantasy and music with echoes of Poe’s own work, including The Raven, The Tell-Tale Heart, The Fall of the House of Usher and The Pit and the Pendulum.

3. Visually stunning

Written, composed and directed by Jonathan Christenson, with striking design by Bretta Gerecke, it uses poetic text, expressive movement, haunting music and whimsical visuals to get under the skin of an irresistible mystery.

4. An international hit

The show has toured Canada, played LIFT at the Barbican, and ran Off-Broadway in 2015, earning three Lucille Lortel Award nominations including Outstanding Musical. The producer also co-produced Come From Away.

5. Book early

It’s a limited 12-week season in an intimate venue beneath the arches at Charing Cross, with casting to be announced in spring 2027. Press night is Tuesday 27 July.
