Rosie O’Donnell has joined the producing team of Indigo, the new musical about family, autism and neurodivergence that is planning a London premiere in 2027. The Emmy Award-winning entertainer and autism advocate became involved after seeing the musical’s UK premiere at Curve Leicester in 2025.
1. Rosie O’Donnell has joined the Indigo producing team
O’Donnell will co-produce Indigo alongside the team led by Lorenzo Thione, Joey Monda and Jay Kuo of Sing Out, Louise! Productions.
After seeing the show in Leicester, O’Donnell described Indigo as a particularly authentic depiction of autism and said she wanted the story to reach a wider audience.
2. Indigo is planning a London premiere in 2027
The announcement brings fresh attention to Indigo ahead of its planned London run in 2027.
The musical had its UK premiere at Curve Leicester in 2025 and tells the story of three generations of women, with much of the story experienced through Emma, a non-speaking autistic teenager.
Further details about the London theatre, dates, casting and tickets are expected to be announced at a later stage.
3. The musical explores autism, Alzheimer’s and family relationships
Indigo follows Elaine, Beverly and Emma as they deal with memories, mistakes and difficult family relationships.
The musical explores subjects including autism, Alzheimer’s, addiction, loss and family, while Emma’s sensory experience is represented through colour, light, music and design.
Rather than treating Emma simply as a character to be explained, the production aims to allow audiences to experience parts of the story from her perspective.
4. Neurodivergent representation is central to Indigo
The creative team says neurodivergent performers and artists have been involved throughout the musical’s development.
Performers taking the role of Emma have themselves been neurodivergent, and composer and lyricist Scott Evan Davis has worked extensively with the autism community.
O’Donnell has also spoken publicly for many years about autism and neurodivergence and has an audience of millions on TikTok.
5. Indigo has a major musical theatre creative team
The musical features a book by Kait Kerrigan, music and lyrics by Scott Evan Davis and direction by Catie Davis.
The wider creative team includes music supervision and orchestrations by Brad Haak, scenic and video design by Tony and Olivier Award winner Andrzej Goulding, lighting design by Jake DeGroot and sound design by Matt Peploe.
With Rosie O’Donnell now joining the producing team and a London premiere planned for 2027, Indigo could become one of the most talked-about new musicals heading to the capital.
More information about Indigo, including London dates, venue and ticket details, is expected to be announced ahead of the 2027 premiere.
