Burlesque the Musical has launched its major UK tour, bringing the glitz, glamour and music of the hit film to theatres across the country. Based on Steven Antin’s movie starring Christina Aguilera and Cher, the stage musical combines big vocals, high-energy choreography and plenty of sequins. Here are five things to know.
1. Burlesque the Musical is based on the hit film
The new stage production is inspired by the Golden Globe-winning film Burlesque, which starred Christina Aguilera and Cher.
The story follows Ali Rose, who travels to New York looking for her mother, Tess Richarde, before finding herself drawn into the colourful world of a burlesque club.
Along the way, she discovers her voice, her confidence and a new family.
2. The musical features songs from some major names
The soundtrack includes music by Christina Aguilera, Sia, Diane Warren, Jess Folley, Todrick Hall and Steven Antin.
Expect a mixture of powerhouse vocals, dance numbers and the kind of extravagant production values fans of the original film will recognise.
3. Faye Brookes leads the cast
Former Coronation Street star Faye Brookes plays Tess Richarde.
Brookes has previously appeared on stage as Roxie Hart in Chicago, Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, Princess Fiona in Shrek and Fran in Strictly Ballroom.
Recent graduate Gracie O’Brien makes her professional stage debut as Ali Rose, while Ryan Carter plays Sean and Ms Loretta.
The cast also includes Davide Fienauri, Tyler Davis, Vanessa Ela Young and Macy Dermody Blythe.
4. The creative team includes the creator of The Pussycat Dolls
The production is directed by Racky Plews, with choreography from Robin Antin, creator of The Pussycat Dolls, and Aaron Renfree.
Steven Antin serves as producer, writer and creative director, while Christina Aguilera is also among the show’s producers.
That creative team should give audiences a good idea of the scale of the production: this is designed as a big, glossy song-and-dance spectacle rather than a quiet adaptation of the film.
5. The tour runs across the UK into May 2027
The tour opened at Stoke-on-Trent’s Regent Theatre in August 2026 and continues around the UK with stops including:
