What does it really take to make a living in London? Night City, a new play by Max Wilkinson, comes to Southwark Playhouse Borough from 9 September to 3 October 2026, following three workers whose lives cross in a city that can be exciting, exhausting and expensive.
1. It looks at the people keeping London moving
At the centre of the story are Jack, a taxi driver, Tamara, a care worker, and Riva, a waitress. Their lives offer three very different views of insecure work in the capital.
2. Real experiences helped shape the play
Wilkinson draws on experiences from London’s gig economy, looking at unpredictable hours, money pressures and the challenge of trying to build a life when work never feels completely secure.
3. There is a strong three person cast
Jack Ambrose from Industry plays Jack, Helena Pipe from Blues for an Alabama Sky plays Tamara and Bex Smith, whose television credits include Coronation Street and The Good Ship Murder, plays Riva.
4. It is not just three people talking about work
Director Ebenezer Bamgboye brings movement and music into the production, helping create the pace and energy of London itself. The result promises to be darkly funny as well as serious.

The first performance on 9 September is a £10 Pioneers’ Preview. Other preview tickets are £16, with standard tickets starting from £22.
