Bus fares are set to get cheaper next year, with single journeys capped at £2 across England outside London from 1 January 2027.

The current national cap is £3, so regular bus users could save as much as a third on some journeys.

The £2 cap is currently confirmed for the whole of 2027.

The scheme applies outside London, where buses have a separate fare system.

The lower cap should help people travelling for work, college, shopping and other regular journeys.
5. It brings back a familiar £2 fare
England previously had a £2 national bus fare cap before it increased to £3. For regular passengers, its return should be a simple and noticeable saving.
The change: £3 maximum fare becomes £2 from January 2027.
