Kieran Hodgson, the four-time Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee and one of the Telegraph’s 50 funniest comedians of the 21st century, is back with a brand-new show, Voice of America. Running from 16th to 28th June 2025 at Soho Theatre, this highly anticipated performance sees Hodgson take on the challenge of capturing the essence of America—through its voices, politics, and pop culture. If you’re thinking about grabbing tickets (which go on sale Wednesday 12th March with a presale on Tuesday 11th March at 10am), here are five things you should know.

1. A Political Stand-Up First for Hodgson
Known for his character-driven storytelling, Hodgson is stepping into new territory with Voice of America. This time, he’s diving into the world of politics, taking on everything from Trump rallies to Pride marches, Taylor Swift anthems to the chaos of January 6th. Expect his trademark wit and mimicry, but with a fresh, topical twist.
2. From ‘Sandwich Guy’ to Stand-Up Star
The inspiration for Voice of America comes from Hodgson’s brief but memorable appearance in the 2023 superhero blockbuster The Flash, where he played ‘Sandwich Guy’ in the film’s opening scene. The challenge? He had to sound American—something the producers quickly pointed out he absolutely didn’t. This hilarious realisation led him on a journey to truly understand what America sounds like.
3. A Comedy Career Packed with Hits
If you’ve seen Hodgson before, you’ll know he’s a master of storytelling. His previous solo shows—Lance, Maestro, ’75, and Big in Scotland—were all critically acclaimed, earning him four Edinburgh Comedy Award nominations. His unique ability to weave history, culture, and personal experiences into laugh-out-loud comedy makes his performances both insightful and hilarious.
4. TV, Film, and Even a Musical About Prince Andrew
Beyond stand-up, Hodgson has built an impressive career in TV and film. He was a series regular in BBC One’s Two Doors Down, starred in See How They Run alongside Saoirse Ronan, and even wrote and starred in Prince Andrew: The Musical for Channel 4. His versatility in comedy makes Voice of America one of the must-see shows of the year.
