John Savident’s notable career extended beyond his memorable role as Fred Elliott in “Coronation Street,” featuring diverse roles in both stage and screen. His early life’s dramatic escape from occupied Guernsey to Britain preluded his diverse career. Not only did he create the role of Monsieur Firmin in “Phantom of the Opera,” but he also appeared in “A Clockwork Orange” and “Yes Minister.” His departure from “Coronation Street” was to focus on family, yet he continued to entertain, notably in “Snow White” pantomime and touring in “Hobson’s Choice.” Savident’s personal life faced challenges, notably a violent attack in 2000. His legacy includes a rich filmography, spanning from “Robbery” (1967) to “The Life and Times of Mim Stewart”.
