The 2018 Small Car Showdown
With roads getting busier, cities getting more packed, and people becoming a lot more conscious of their carbon footprint, it’s no wonder that small cars are very fashionable at the moment. Providing the get up and go to make driving fun, without guzzling fuel, these cars are great for commuters and intense drivers alike. Of course, though, there are quite a few options out there, and it’s time to start looking into them.
Contender One: Smart ForTwo
Smart has been making waves for well over a decade, producing a range of popular small cars which are designed to be perfect in a city. The ForTwo is the very smallest of their options, providing only two seats and an incredibly small boot. With engine capacities as low as 1.1l being powerful enough to move this little machine, fuel will be gently sipped and you will find yourself seldom visiting the petrol station. Mercedes-Benz, AMG & smart Servicing is very affordable, too, making it even cheaper to run. The ForTwo is only 1.66m wide, making it possible to take it where most cars will never go.
Contender Two: Renault Twizy
It would be wrong to ignore electric cars on a list like this, especially given that a lot of the options in this space are very small. None quite compare to the Renault Twizy, though, and this car is even smaller than the Smart. Coming it at just over 1.2m wide and 1.4m tall, this car’s footprint isn’t much larger than that of a motorbike. If you live in a city where charging points are becoming common, this sort of car could be perfect for you. If not, though, it will be worth thinking about some other options.
Contender Three: The Fiat 500
Next, it’s time to go back to regular combustion engines, and a classic from the heart of Europe; the Fiat 500. Coming it at pretty much the same size as a Smart car, a 500 is a great option for those on a budget, as it is a little cheaper than its German counterpart. The styling of this motor is one of the main reasons to go for it. Having become somewhat of an icon over the last few years, you’ll be sure to turn some heads driving a 500.
There are loads of small cars out there, and a lot of them are perfect for driving around in the city. Of course, when you’re choosing something like this, it’s always worth putting in extra effort to ensure that you get something which is perfect for you. It’s important to take vehicles on test drives, giving yourself the chance to try it before you sink any money into it.
Hopefully, this post will inspire you to start looking around for your next small car. With options like this becoming increasingly popular, it’s easy to grab yourself a good deal on an excellent motor. Of course, though, while these are very popular, you have to make sure that you’re buying a car which suits your needs.
