London Theatre | West End, extended until 29 May 2027
The little musical that could keeps growing. Operation Mincemeat, which began in a 77-seat London fringe theatre, has announced its fifth production, heading to Australia. Here are five things to know, including how to see it in London.
1. Australia is next
The news was announced live at curtain call in London, New York, Chicago and Norwich at the same time. The show will premiere at the Comedy Theatre in Melbourne in September 2027, before travelling on to New Zealand, China and Mexico.
2. It’s still playing in the West End
Now on its 19th extension, the show runs at the Fortune Theatre until 29 May 2027, taking it into its fifth year in London. It has sold more than 400,000 West End tickets and over a million worldwide.
3. A true story that’s hard to believe
It’s 1943 and the Allies are losing the war. The plan? Dress up a stolen corpse and use it to fool Hitler. The fast-paced, hilarious musical tells the unbelievable true story of the secret MI5 mission that helped win the Second World War, with a cast of five playing 32 characters.
4. Award-winning and adored
Written by SpitLip and directed by Robert Hastie, it has won 24 awards, including the Olivier for Best New Musical, and Jak Malone won both an Olivier and a Tony for playing Hester Leggatt. Its devoted fans, the “Mincefluencers”, include one who has seen it more than 213 times.
5. Catch the UK tour too
If you can’t make the West End, the UK tour has been extended into 2027. Whichever version you see, it’s one of the funniest, most moving musicals around.
