5 Things to Know About Anna Lapwood’s New Album, Featuring The Lord of the Rings Organ Symphony

Music | Out Friday 13 November 2026

Organist Anna Lapwood, who has introduced millions of new fans to the organ, is releasing her most ambitious album yet. Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost arrives on 13 November on Sony Masterworks, reimagining two of the most famous film scores ever written.

Here are five things to know.

1. The Lord of the Rings, on organ

At the heart of the album is The Lord of the Rings Organ Symphony, Anna’s biggest transcription project ever. Its 14 movements follow the story from “One Ring to Rule Them All” and “Concerning Hobbits” through Rivendell and the Battle of the Pelennor Fields to “The Return of the King”. She even spoke to composer Howard Shore, who offered advice along the way.

2. She sings in Elvish

For the first time, Anna sings on the record, in Elvish, throughout the symphony. She says Tolkien’s world isn’t just a story you read but one you enter, and after a year with the music, she felt she’d been living in Middle-earth.

3. It started with a request in a coffee shop

The idea came from a chance meeting in a New York coffee shop, when a young girl named Katherine asked her to play “Concerning Hobbits”. Anna transcribed everything by ear, and asked fellow fans to help choose which moments to include.

4. Pirates, dragons and a cathedral organ

The album also features her Suite from Pirates of the Caribbean and music from How to Train Your Dragon. It was recorded on the Steinmeyer organ of Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, Norway, with the Nidaros Cathedral Girls’ Choir joining her on two tracks.

5. A London favourite

Anna is the Official Organist of the Royal Albert Hall, has opened for Ludovico Einaudi at The O2, and has performed with RAYE and Florence + the Machine. She was the first woman awarded an organ scholarship at Magdalen College, Oxford, and has more than 4 million followers online. Tatler has even called her the Taylor Swift of classical music.
