Soho was once a world of its own: glamorous and gritty, cultured and crude. Gentrification may have swept away many of its famous characters, but their echoes remain. In Soho Songs, cabaret legend Barb Jungr brings those voices back to life in a brand-new song cycle, playing Wilton’s Music Hall for two nights only.

1. Barb Jungr, singing her own words
Barb Jungr is one of the finest British singers of her generation, famous for reinventing other people’s songs. Soho Songs is the first show in many years, since her celebrated Jungr and Parker days, built entirely around her own lyrics. She is also an Olivier-nominated writer, for The Smartest Giant in Town.
2. Music by Level 42’s Mike Lindup
The music comes from jazz great Mike Lindup of Level 42, making this a rare and exciting collaboration between two very different corners of British music.
3. A love letter to the Soho that has gone
This is a night of music for a neighbourhood that no longer exists, and for everyone who misses it. Musical Theatre Review gave it four stars, calling it a poignant homage to the Soho many remember from the 1970s and 80s, before the big clean-up.
4. Outstanding musicians on stage
Barb is joined by pianist Michael Roulston, a multi-award winner who has played with Fascinating Aïda since 2019, and bassist Davide Mantovani, who has worked with Lisa Stansfield, Baaba Maal and Jason Rebello. The show is directed by Denise Silvey and designed by Steve Ullathorne.
5. One of London’s most atmospheric venues
Wilton’s Music Hall in east London is the perfect home for a show about a lost London. With tickets from £13.50 and a running time of 85 minutes with no interval, it makes a brilliant evening or weekend matinee.
