If you are prepared to drive outside the city, Calshot may provide the most dramatic ship-spotting experience of all.
Calshot Spit sits close to the entrance to Southampton Water, so ships heading to and from Southampton pass along the shipping channel nearby.
You will not necessarily feel as close to the docks as you do at Mayflower Park, but the attraction here is watching an entire cruise ship travelling through the landscape rather than simply seeing one tied up alongside.
