5 Things To Know About the New UK Tour of Trainspotting The Musical

Thirty years after Trainspotting became one of Britain’s most iconic films, the story is heading back on the road in a brand-new stage production packed with live music, dark humour and plenty of attitude.

1. It’s heading out on a huge UK tour

Following its London West End premiere, Trainspotting The Musical will tour the UK from October 2026 through to March 2027, visiting cities including Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Brighton, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

2. Irvine Welsh says the musical has “more heart”

Original author Irvine Welsh says the stage version brings an even more emotional side to the story while still delivering the chaos, humour and raw energy fans expect.

3. A full Scottish cast leads the production

The show stars Scottish actor Robbie Scott as Renton alongside Sheridan Townsley, Kieran Andrew and Frankie O’Connor playing the famous gang of characters that defined a generation.

4. Expect classic songs and brand-new music

The musical combines electrifying tracks associated with the original film alongside new music and lyrics written by Irvine Welsh and Stephen McGuinness.

5. This isn’t just nostalgia

The production updates the themes of addiction and escape for today’s world, exploring modern obsessions with technology, powerlessness and social pressure while keeping the rebellious spirit of the original story alive.
