Andrew Lloyd Webber’s CATS is returning to UK theatres in a brand-new production, with a short run scheduled at the New Victoria Theatre in May 2027. Here are five key things to know.

1. This is a new production
This version of CATS has been newly directed and choreographed by Drew McOnie. Rather than a revival of a previous staging, it has been reworked for contemporary audiences, with updated choreography and a fresh visual approach.
McOnie has a strong track record with large-scale musical productions, including Jesus Christ Superstar and Brigadoon, and has previously performed in CATS himself.
2. It’s only in Woking for a limited run
The production will play in Woking from Tuesday 18 May to Saturday 22 May 2027.
Performance times:
- Evenings at 19:30
- Matinees on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday at 14:30
Tickets can be booked here:

Given the short run and the show’s popularity, availability is likely to be limited.
3. The original score remains unchanged
The production retains the well-known score by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Key songs include:
- Memory
- Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats
- Macavity: The Mystery Cat
The musical is based on Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, and combines music, dance and character-driven storytelling rather than a conventional narrative.
4. It’s part of a wider UK tour
The Woking run forms part of a larger UK tour following performances at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
The production is backed by Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals, led by Michael Harrison. Their recent work includes major productions such as Sunset Boulevard, Evita and Starlight Express.
5. CATS remains one of the most successful musicals globally
Since its premiere in 1981, CATS has:
- Been seen by over 77 million people worldwide
- Run for over two decades in the West End
- Been staged in more than 50 countries
Its longevity and continued touring reflect its ongoing appeal across different audiences.
