This award-winning free exhibition transports visitors to a space filled with classic memorabilia—think glass fish, a Bluespot ‘Gram, Jim Reeves LPs, and even a plastic pineapple ice bucket! Alongside the exhibit, enjoy readings from Twenty-Eight Pounds Ten Shillings, A Windrush Story by influential author and curator Tony Fairweather.
2. Party in True Windrush Style (7 March)
The Windrush Front Room House Party promises an unforgettable evening hosted by the legendary Tony Fairweather himself. Expect comedy, book signings, moving image displays, potent rum cocktails, and a playlist featuring Bob Marley, John Holt, and Jim Reeves spinning on the radiogram. This is your chance to soak up the music and spirit of the Windrush era while celebrating with friends old and new!
3. Meet the Minds Behind the Stories (8 – 16 March)
Literature lovers are in for a treat as Woolwich Works brings together a stellar lineup of authors. Award-winning children’s writers K.N. Chimbiri and Juliet Coley will host engaging storytelling sessions on 8 March, while bestselling authors like Ray Shell and Garfield Robinson will participate in a Q&A and book signing on 15 March. Tony Fairweather will also be offering exclusive ‘Meet The Curator’ sessions throughout the exhibition dates.
4. Celebrate Mother’s Day with a Musical Legend (30 March)
The Queen of Lover’s Rock, Carroll Thompson, headlines In Celebration of My Sisters: A Mother’s Day Show. A tradition that started over 30 years ago, this event is a spectacular variety showcase featuring afrobeat, comedy, poetry, opera, reggae, soul, and even motivational talks. Hosted by the charismatic Felicity Ethnic, this show is the perfect way to honour the incredible women in our lives.
5. Experience the Best of Jamaica Jazz with The Effra Band (25 April)
If you love jazz, don’t miss The Effra Band—one of South London’s finest Jamaica Jazz groups. Known for their legendary performances at Brixton’s Effra Hall Tavern, these musicians have played alongside greats like Fela Kuti, The Specials, and Jools Holland. Expect a night of electrifying rhythms and smooth melodies as they take over Woolwich Works as part of the Woolwich Jazz Series.
