Are Hampton Court Gardens Free?

Hampton Court Palace Gardens, known for their vast expanse of over 800 acres, including formal gardens and historic parkland, are not generally free to access. However, on a few selected days throughout the year, the public can visit the gardens without a ticket during Garden Open Days. These open days are available from spring to late autumn.

The gardens offer a range of highlights such as the Great Fountain Garden, the Privy Garden dating back to the 16th century, the Kitchen Garden with 18th-century style fruits and vegetables, and the Pond Garden known for its flowering plants in spring and summer. While you can explore these areas for free on open days, accessing the palace itself, the Maze, or the Magic Garden Playground requires a paid admission ticket.

The free access initiative was introduced following a petition by local residents. Despite the financial challenges faced by Historic Royal Palaces due to the pandemic, they have scheduled several open garden days as a gesture of gratitude to the community.

The open days for free garden access vary each year, so it’s recommended to check the official Hampton Court Palace website or local news sources for the specific dates and any potential restrictions on garden areas.
