Halloween 2026 | Warwick Castle, about 45 minutes from Birmingham
With more than a thousand years of history to inspire it, Warwick Castle is one of the best places in the country to celebrate Halloween. This half term, The Haunted Castle brings mazes, shows and spooky characters to the grounds. Here are five reasons to go.
1. The Haunted Castle (24 October – 1 November)
Throughout half term, the castle’s spookiest residents invite families to join in the fun. Explore the Haunted Hollows, meet characters along the way and enjoy over 64 acres of grounds decorated with pumpkins and scarecrows. It’s pitched as family-friendly fright rather than full-on fear.
2. Witches and family shows
Catch the Witches of Warwick in a live family Halloween show, and meet Dig and Doug, the castle’s grave diggers with a very morbid sense of humour. Kids can also join a witches’ school for some magical lessons.
3. Castle After Dark for braver visitors
For teens and adults who want proper scares, Castle After Dark runs on 24 and 29 to 31 October, with scare attractions around the castle after nightfall. Note that some of these are recommended for ages 10 and over.
4. Climb the towers and see the trebuchet
All the usual castle highlights are still there. Climb the turrets for breathtaking views from the top of Guy’s Tower, explore the ramparts, and watch Britain’s largest working siege machine in action.
5. Easy from Birmingham, with combo tickets
Warwick Castle is about 45 minutes from Birmingham city centre, making it a perfect day trip if you’re staying in the city. It’s part of Merlin Entertainments, so you can buy combination tickets with SEA LIFE Birmingham, LEGOLAND Discovery Centre or Cadbury World. If you fancy staying over, there are Woodland Lodges and the Warwick Castle Hotel on site.
