5 Reasons to Visit the National SEA LIFE Centre Birmingham, Home of the UK’s Only 360° Ocean Tunnel

Birmingham Family Days Out | Brindleyplace, city centre

Set on the water’s edge in Brindleyplace, the National SEA LIFE Centre Birmingham is one of the city’s best indoor family attractions. It’s home to more than 2,000 creatures from oceans, rivers and coral reefs. Here are five reasons to dive in.

1. The UK’s only 360° ocean tunnel

Walk through the spectacular 360° Ocean Tunnel as sharks, rays and tropical fish glide all around you, above and below. It’s the only one of its kind in the UK and the highlight of most visits, so take your time and watch for the giant green sea turtle swimming overhead.

2. Meet Ozzy and Ola, the sea otters

The centre is home to the UK’s first Alaskan sea otters, Ozzy and Ola, who live in a dedicated marine mammal rescue facility. Their playful antics are guaranteed to make the kids smile, and they’re a real Birmingham favourite.

3. A colony of Gentoo penguins

Say hello to the cheeky Gentoo penguins as they dive beneath freezing waters and play in their icy home. Watching them zoom through the water is mesmerising for children and adults alike.

4. Touch a starfish

At the interactive rockpool, children can learn about marine life from the experts and even stroke a starfish or feel the texture of a sea anemone. Along the way, there are plenty of chances to learn about the threats facing ocean life and how you can help.

5. Easy to combine with other attractions

SEA LIFE is about a 15-minute walk from New Street station, close to the canals and restaurants of Brindleyplace. You can also buy combination tickets with LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Birmingham, Warwick Castle or Cadbury World, which can save money if you’re planning a few days out. Booking online in advance gets the best price, and under-2s go free.
