Birmingham Family Days Out | Next to the Utilita Arena, city centre
For young LEGO fans, LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Birmingham is the ultimate indoor playground. Opened in 2018 next to the Utilita Arena, it’s packed with rides, build zones and play areas, and is best suited to children aged 3 to 10. Here are five reasons to visit.
1. Save the princess on Kingdom Quest
Start your adventure on Kingdom Quest, an interactive laser ride where you hop aboard a chariot and blast trolls and skeletons to rescue a captured princess. There’s also Merlin’s Apprentice, a pedal-powered ride that lifts you higher the faster you pedal.
2. Birmingham in LEGO bricks
MINILAND recreates 45 of the city’s famous landmarks from millions of LEGO bricks, with airships swooping and towers lighting up. Kids love trying to spot the mischievous Minifigures hiding in the scenes, and grown-ups can pick out the buildings they recognise.
3. A 4D cinema
Catch a LEGO movie in the 4D cinema, where you’ll feel the wind, rain and even snow alongside your favourite LEGO characters. It’s a good chance for everyone to sit down for a few minutes too.
4. Build, test and play
Build a car and race it on the test tracks, get creative in Heartlake City with LEGO Friends, or let toddlers loose in the DUPLO area. There’s also LEGO soft play and Master Model Builder workshops, where kids pick up insider tips from the experts.
5. Seasonal events and Halloween fun
The centre runs themed events throughout the year. In recent years, October has brought “Brick or Treat”, with a haunted MINILAND scavenger hunt, LEGO pumpkin building and a Halloween 4D movie, so check what’s on during your visit. Allow around three hours, and note that adults must visit with a child.
