5 Reasons to See The Cherry Orchard at the Harold Pinter Theatre, From £27

London Theatre | 3 October 2026 – 9 January 2027

Kristin Scott Thomas and Stephen Mangan lead Ian Rickson’s elegant West End revival of Chekhov’s final masterpiece. Here are five reasons it should be top of your autumn list.

1. Stephen Mangan’s best work yet

Mangan’s Lopakhin, the peasant’s son who buys the estate, is the beating heart of the show. Time Out called it a career best, and we agree.

2. Kristin Scott Thomas as Ranevskaya

Scott Thomas brings poise and quiet heartbreak to the aristocrat who can’t let go of the past. Her final moments are genuinely moving.

3. Chekhov that’s actually funny

Conor McPherson’s adaptation sharpens both the bitterness and the comedy. Karl Johnson’s doddery old servant Firs gets some of the biggest laughs of the night.

4. A beautiful production to look at

Chloe Lamford’s set and Bruno Poet’s lighting are gorgeous. The costumes drift curiously between eras, but that’s a small quibble.

5. A long run, so no excuses

It runs into January, making it a perfect pre-Christmas treat. Allow two and a half hours, including an interval.
