London Theatre | Until 7 November 2026
Joy Nesbitt’s haunting new play is a ghost story about the legacy of slavery, playing upstairs at the Royal Court. It got under our skin, and here are five reasons to catch it.
1. Thrillingly original new writing
Nesbitt weaves a spooky supernatural tale through real social history. It’s the kind of new play you’ll want to say you saw first.
2. Clear, confident direction
Tatenda Shamiso directs with real purpose, keeping a layered story easy to follow without losing any of its chill.
3. Lighting and sound that do the haunting
The design does half the work of the ghost story. Expect a few goosebumps in the intimate Jerwood Theatre Upstairs.
4. A strong ensemble
Hannah Morrish, Patrick Vaill and Ronkẹ Adékọluẹ́jọ stand out in a tight cast. The ending is a touch over-explained, but the performances carry it.
5. £15 Mondays
Every Monday performance is £15, and other tickets top out at £30. It runs about 2 hours 10 minutes, including an interval.
