London Cabaret | 6 November – 6 December 2026
Fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe, Grit, Glitter & Gaslight: The Sarah McGuinness Story returns to London for four weeks only at Blacks, the private members’ club behind a mysterious black door on Dean Street. Here are five reasons to go.
1. A rare look inside Blacks
Freshly restored to its Georgian glory, Blacks is one of Soho’s most exclusive buildings, and this show is a chance to step inside. Drinks are available in the downstairs bar before and after the performance.
2. A remarkable true story
Sarah McGuinness takes audiences from her childhood on the Irish border in Derry to the highs of international success, in a darkly funny cabaret about identity, family and reinvention that blurs memoir, concert and confession.
3. Bowie, Kate Bush and Sondheim
The setlist mixes classics by David Bowie, Kate Bush, Kurt Weill, Stephen Sondheim and Kander & Ebb with McGuinness’s own songs, including “Mama Can You See Me Now”, which featured in the Emmy-nominated documentary Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story.
4. A long creative partnership with Eddie Izzard
McGuinness has worked with Eddie Izzard as a director and designer for more than 20 years, and wrote the soundtrack for the BAFTA-shortlisted film Noma: Forgiving Apartheid with the Soweto Gospel Choir.
5. Glowing Edinburgh reviews
The show earned five-star reviews from Lou Reviews and Irish Central, and The List called it “a triumphant affair”. With only four weeks in an intimate venue, tickets are likely to be limited.
