Surrey Food & Drink | Thursday 22 October 2026
One for Surrey food lovers. Acclaimed chef Mark Sargeant is hosting Game On, a one-night-only celebration of British game, at The Victoria Oxshott. Here are five reasons to book.
1. A Michelin-pedigree chef
Sargeant spent 13 years with Gordon Ramsay, leading Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s to a Michelin star in 2002. You’ll also know him from Saturday Kitchen, Great British Menu and The F Word. He’s partway through a four-month residency at The Victoria with Head Chef Daniel Lee.
2. Nine courses celebrating game season
The menu opens with a cep and truffle focaccia board with Sargeant’s own “Markmite” and smoked paprika puffed crackling, then a game “tea” with duck liver tortellini. Look out for pressed foie gras and confit rabbit, an Orkney scallop with saffron orzotto, and the centrepiece: venison Wellington with Koffman cabbage and port sauce.
3. Desserts to share
Finish with crème au chocolat with Agen prunes, a tiramisu for two to share, and petit fours of macarons, damson pâte de fruit and salted caramel chocolates.
4. A candlelit, fireside setting
For one night, the three-AA-Rosette village pub will feel like a special occasion, with roaring fires, candlelit tables and crisp tablecloths. Afterwards, enjoy a whisky and cigar menu on the heated, covered terrace.
5. Plus a seafood night in November
The dinner is £175 per person, including a welcome drink and a drink with dessert, with optional wine flights at £55 or £75. If you can’t make it, Sargeant hosts The Coastal Table, celebrating British fish and seafood, on 19 and 20 November.
