London Music | 14 and 22 October, plus Christmas special 25 November
Part concert, part art installation, Lamplight Concerts fills the historic Actors’ Church in Covent Garden with one-of-a-kind lamps, pools of dynamic light and live music. It’s only happening for a handful of nights. Here are five reasons to go.
1. A concert you sit inside
Rather than watching from a distance, you’re surrounded by a glowing, hand-built landscape of bespoke lamps created by The Prop Making Company’s Neil Darcy and Offie-nominated lighting designer Peter Small. It’s intimate, cinematic and a little bit magical.
2. A stunning voice
Mezzo-soprano Rachel Payne, trained at New York’s Manhattan School of Music and in Vienna and mentored by the legendary Marilyn Horne, created the experience. With pianist Jack Tyndale-Biscoe as Duo Atlantis, she takes audiences on a one-hour journey through love, loss and light.
3. Rediscover the art of song
Duo Atlantis met at the Royal College of Music and have taken art song from Carnegie Hall to Vienna, Paris and Prague. Their debut album, recorded at Abbey Road and due in 2027, includes selections from Elgar’s Sea Pictures.
4. A historic setting
St Paul’s, the Actors’ Church, has welcomed London audiences since 1633, and its walls remember stars from Charlie Chaplin to Noël Coward and Vivien Leigh. Lit by lamplight, it’s a breathtaking place to hear live music.
5. Great value, with a Christmas special
Tickets are just £20, or £10 for concessions. Remaining October dates are 14 October (a relaxed performance) and 22 October, and there’s a one-night-only Christmas Special on 25 November. Seating is unreserved, so arrive early.
