Remember what a steak dinner cost in 2011? The Coal Shed does. To celebrate 15 years of “Beef & Fire”, the restaurant is turning back the clock with a limited-edition anniversary menu of its best-loved original dishes, priced at £35 for three courses. It’s available at The Coal Shed London at One Tower Bridge and at the original Brighton restaurant from Monday 12 to Sunday 25 October.

1. Almost half price
The menu is inspired by the restaurant’s original 2011 prices, and The Coal Shed says it works out at a saving of almost 50% compared with ordering similar dishes from today’s à la carte menu. For dry-aged chateaubriand, that’s a serious bargain.
2. The Jacob’s Ladder is back
You start with the much-loved original BBQ Jacob’s Ladder, a rich, slow-cooked beef short rib starter that helped define the restaurant’s early years. Regulars from the first days in Brighton will remember it well.
3. Chateaubriand and beef dripping chips
The main event is dry-aged chateaubriand, cooked over coal and served with The Coal Shed’s classic beef dripping chips and peppercorn sauce. It’s exactly the kind of dish the restaurant built its name on.
4. A sticky toffee pudding with a twist
Dessert is a nostalgic sticky toffee pudding, topped with beef fat caramel and vanilla ice cream. It sounds unusual, but the beef fat adds a deep, savoury richness to the caramel. If you want to make a night of it, add the three-glass wine pairing for £35 more, with a wine chosen for each course.
5. Dinner with a view of Tower Bridge
The London restaurant sits at One Tower Bridge on the South Bank, so it’s a great spot for a special occasion or a pre-theatre meal near The Bridge Theatre. “This menu gives us the chance to bring back some of the dishes our earliest guests still remember,” says founder Raz Helalat. In Brighton, the menu runs as part of OctoberBEST, the city’s month-long restaurant celebration.
