London Travel | Launched 28 September 2026
If your Tube has been late, TfL may owe you money, but most Londoners never claim it. Refund My Journey, a new service that launched today, wants to fix that by finding and filing delay refunds for you.
Here are five things to know.
1. You’re probably owed more than you think
TfL refunds your fare when a delay within its control makes your journey 15 minutes late on the Tube or DLR, or 30 minutes late on the Elizabeth line and London Overground. The refund is the single pay-as-you-go fare for that journey. Delays caused by strikes, planned engineering works or things outside TfL’s control don’t count, and buses and trams aren’t covered.
2. Hardly anyone claims
According to the company, TfL’s own figures show it paid 125,998 delay refunds in the year to June 2026, down from 461,084 in 2019. Delays haven’t gone away, though. Refund My Journey says its tracking of TfL line status showed delays or suspensions on the Central line every day from 14 to 23 September, and on the Hammersmith & City line and London Overground on nine days out of ten.
3. It does the checking for you
You sign in to TfL on TfL’s own page, and the service reads your journey history. It compares each trip with how long it normally takes and flags the ones that qualify, so you don’t have to remember which journeys ran late.
4. The first 100 members pay half price for life
The service normally costs £19.99 a year per card. The first 100 people to sign up with the code INNERCLUB50 pay £9.99 a year per card for life.
5. You can still claim yourself for free
You don’t have to use a paid service. You can claim directly through your TfL account, but you need to do it within 28 days of the delayed journey. TfL suggests waiting 48 hours first, as it sometimes refunds you automatically. Refund My Journey is aimed at busy commuters who’d rather not keep track themselves, so it’s worth weighing the yearly fee against how often you travel.
