Edinburgh singer-songwriter Hamish Hawk is back with news of his new album, Intriguer / Tenderness, out on 2 April 2027 via So Recordings. It follows 2024’s A Firmer Hand, which was an Album of the Week at The Quietus.
Here are five things to know.
1. Two voices at war
The 10-song album is built around two opposing characters. Intriguer is remote, charismatic and grandiose, while Tenderness is troubled and dewy-eyed. The songs explore what happens when they collide, dealing in lust, deceit, ambition, consent and pain.
2. Two new songs out now
To introduce the characters, Hawk has released one song from each. The synth-driven title track is Tenderness’s song of pain and mania. Hawk says it was a catharsis that helped him understand where the album begins and ends. Watch the video below:

3. His most personal record yet
Hawk describes the album as a confrontation with his own inner critic. One song, “Mother of Vinegar”, was written in his living room during a really difficult time. Admired by Neil Tennant of Pet Shop Boys, he’s known for sharp, vivid lyrics inspired by books, overheard conversations, dreams and even Coronation Street.
4. Collectable formats
The album is coming on CD, cassette and black vinyl, plus a limited coloured LP, a Rough Trade exclusive variant and a very limited Dinked edition. Some formats come with signed prints.
5. Catch him at Rough Trade East on release day
Hawk and his band launch the album with an in-store show at Rough Trade East in London on release day, Friday 2 April 2027. The tour continues to Brighton, Kingston, Bristol, Nottingham, Liverpool, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
