Big news for Minecraft fans. Chessington World of Adventures has revealed the world’s first Minecraft World Hotel and the world’s first Minecraft rollercoaster, Escape the Nether. Both will open in 2027 as part of Minecraft World, a brand-new land at the park.
Here are five things to know.
1. It’s the first Minecraft theme park land anywhere
Minecraft World is a £50 million project from Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios, the makers of Minecraft. It brings the best-selling game of all time to life in the real world for the first time. You’ll be able to explore the caves, mineshafts and plains of the Overworld, and even meet some of the game’s famous mobs. Chessington’s tagline for it is “Play Real Life Mode”.
2. Escape the Nether is the world’s first Minecraft rollercoaster
Riders board a minecart and join Steve and Alex as they battle through the Nether, coming face to face with hostile mobs before launching back out through a Nether portal into the Overworld. And yes, there’s lava. The track is already in place, and Chessington has released timelapse footage of it going up.
3. You can sleep in a Minecraft bedroom
The Minecraft World Hotel is billed as the ultimate Minecraft sleepover. It will have around 70 themed rooms across four floors, each styled around the game’s biomes, with blocky trees and animals around check-in, Nether portal-inspired lifts and mine tunnel corridors leading to your room.
4. Dinner under the sea
The hotel will include an underwater-themed restaurant, and reports say the bar will be inspired by the game’s Woodland Mansion. The wider Minecraft World land will also have block-built play areas, interactive adventures, and its own themed shops and places to eat.
5. Join the waitlist now
An exact opening date, room rates and ticket prices haven’t been announced yet, and hotel bookings aren’t open. If your kids are already begging to go, sign up to the waitlist on Chessington’s website to hear first when bookings open. Chessington is about 35 minutes by direct train from London Waterloo.
