London Theatre | 10 November – 23 December 2026
The Almeida Theatre has announced the full cast for Desire Under the Elms, a new version of Eugene O’Neill’s twentieth-century classic. Directed by former Almeida Resident Director Ebenezer Bamgboye and starring Zackary Momoh, it runs in Islington from 10 November to 23 December.
Here are five reasons to book.
1. A shattering family drama
Eben and his half-brothers Peter and Simeon toil on their family farm, dreaming of the future. Their father, Ephraim, disappeared without a word two months ago. When he finally returns, he isn’t alone, and his unexpected companion blows apart everything they’d planned. Inspired by Greek tragedy, it’s a raging battle between heart and head.
2. A classic by a four-time Pulitzer winner
Eugene O’Neill won the Pulitzer Prize four times and is one of America’s greatest playwrights. This new version gives his classic a fresh look for today’s audiences.
3. Zackary Momoh leads a strong cast
Zackary Momoh (Seven Seconds, Harriet) plays Eben. He’s joined by Kelly Gough as Abbie, Antony Byrne as Cabot, Jamie Beamish (Derry Girls) as Simeon and Thomas Coombes (Baby Reindeer, Black Doves) as Peter. Actor-musicians Choolwe Laina Muntanga, Tendai Humphrey Sitima and Nathaniel Wade complete the company.
4. An exciting director
Ebenezer Bamgboye directed the acclaimed The Lonely Londoners at Jermyn Street and Kiln Theatre. He’s joined by a creative team that includes set designer Basia Bińkowska, lighting designer Jack Knowles and composer XANA.
5. The Almeida’s track record
The Almeida has launched hit after hit, including A Streetcar Named Desire, The Years, Patriots and 1536, many of which transferred to the West End and Broadway. There are accessible performances too, including BSL-interpreted, audio-described, captioned and relaxed shows.
