5 Reasons to Visit Liu Xiaomian’s Fiery New-Look Noodle Bar in Carnaby

London Food & Drink | October 2026

Chongqing noodle specialist Liu Xiaomian has given its Carnaby restaurant a bold new look, and to celebrate National Noodle Day on 6 October it is launching its hottest-ever noodle challenge. Tucked away on the first floor of Kingly Court, the intimate noodle bar is now more fiery than ever.

Here are five reasons to go.

1. A neon-lit, cyberpunk makeover

After an unexpected leak earlier this year, founders Linda and Charlene turned the repairs into a full refresh. The new design takes its cue from their hometown of Chongqing, famous for its elevated roads, monorails and neon-lit skyline. Think bold red tiles, metallic finishes and red seating that echo both the city’s energy and its famously fiery food.

2. More space, including a new bar

The refurbishment has extended the dining area and added new bar seating, making better use of the cosy space while keeping the lively, casual atmosphere that made it a Carnaby favourite. Perfect for a quick solo bowl or a catch-up with friends.

3. The hottest-ever Spicy & Numbing Challenge

Think you can handle the heat? Six challengers per session face four rounds of Chongqing noodles, each smaller portion spicier and more numbing than the last. The noodles are at least three times hotter than the restaurant’s usual heat, made with red Sichuan peppercorn and several chillies, including the tiny but ferocious “Starry Sky” chilli. There is no water, drink or other food allowed: reach for water and you are out.

4. Win a year of free noodles

The last challenger standing in each session wins a year’s supply of Liu Xiaomian noodles: one free bowl every month for 12 months. Sessions take place at 5.30pm on 11, 12, 25 and 26 October. Entry is £12, which can be put towards selected merchandise, and places are limited to six per session. Challengers must be 18 or over.

5. A brand-new wonton noodle bowl

If you would rather enjoy your noodles without the tears, try the new Chao Shou Mian, which brings Liu Xiaomian’s handmade Chongqing-style pork wontons and noodles together in one bowl. Regulars had been ordering the combination for a while, and it is a dish that is currently trending in Chongqing, so it has now earned a permanent spot on the menu.
