Few names mean more to British jazz than Ronnie Scott. The saxophonist opened his club in Soho in 1959 with fellow musician Pete King, and it has been at 47 Frith Street since 1965, hosting everyone from jazz legends to today’s rising stars.
On what would have been his 100th birthday, the club is marking the occasion with a one-off concert at the Barbican Hall. Ronnie Scott’s 100th Birthday: A Celebration In Concert brings together generations of musicians to celebrate his life, music and legacy. Here are five reasons to book.
1. It happens on the day itself
The concert takes place on Thursday 28 January 2027, exactly 100 years since Ronnie Scott was born. It’s a single, one-night-only performance rather than a run, so there’s just one chance to be there.
Moving the celebration from the intimate Frith Street club to the much larger Barbican Hall gives more fans the chance to be part of it.
2. A starry line-up
The guest list brings together some of the biggest names in British jazz and beyond:
- Mica Paris, the acclaimed British soul singer
- Curtis Stigers, the American singer and saxophonist
- Omar Puente, Art Themen, John Etheridge and Orphy Robinson
- Younger stars Camilla George, Daniel Casimir, Mark Kavuma and Joe Webb
More guests are still to be announced, so the line-up could grow before the night.
3. Led by the club’s own artistic director
The evening is led by pianist James Pearson, Artistic Director of Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. That means the concert comes straight from the people who keep Ronnie’s legacy alive every night of the week in Soho.
4. Film and archive treasures
This isn’t just a gig. Alongside the live music there will be historic film and archive material, telling the story of Ronnie’s life, the music he loved, and the artists and movements that shaped his legendary club.
For anyone who has spent a late night at Frith Street, it’s a chance to see where it all began.
5. Generations of British jazz on one stage
The line-up deliberately spans the generations, from musicians who have been part of the scene for decades to some of the brightest names of today. Together they show just how far Ronnie Scott’s influence has reached, and why his club is still one of the most famous jazz venues in the world.
