The Nautilus Maldives has made its debut in The MICHELIN Guide’s global hotel selection with Two MICHELIN Keys, earned in its very first year of inclusion. The MICHELIN Guide describes Two Keys as representing an exceptional stay, awarded to hotels that are unique, memorable and distinguished by their character, sense of place and consistently outstanding hospitality.
Hotels are judged on five criteria: architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, personality and character, value for the experience, and a meaningful contribution to their setting. So what makes The Nautilus stand out? Here are five reasons.
1. Just 26 private houses and residences
The Nautilus is an intimate collection of only 26 beach and ocean Houses and Residences. The idea is to offer the exclusivity of a private island without having to book the whole island.
Each one is a spacious, bohemian-inspired sanctuary with its own separate living room, a private pool and uninterrupted views of the ocean. Every house and residence also comes with full butler service from a dedicated House Master, who helps shape the stay around each guest.
2. No check-in times, no schedules
This is where The Nautilus really differs from most luxury resorts. There are no fixed check-in or check-out times, no set schedules and no expectations about where or when anything should happen.
Guests live entirely on their own rhythm. As General Manager Philippe Cavory puts it, the greatest privilege the island can offer is the freedom for guests to live entirely on their own terms.
3. Dining completely off script
Dining follows the same philosophy. Guests can eat what they want, wherever and whenever they choose. Breakfast at sunset? No problem. Dinner on a deserted sandbank? That can be arranged too.
For more structured options, the island has three restaurants and two bars, along with bespoke culinary experiences.
4. A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve on the doorstep
The Nautilus sits in Baa Atoll, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, close to Hanifaru Bay. The surrounding marine life is a big part of the experience, with underwater explorations and private yacht cruises among the activities on offer.
For downtime, the Solasta Spa offers bespoke wellness programmes, a range of treatments, and yoga, fitness and meditation classes, all tailored to individual needs.
5. An award-winning track record
The MICHELIN Keys are the latest in a long line of honours. The Nautilus appears on Condé Nast Traveler’s Gold List 2026, was named Independent Luxury Hotel of the Year at the Aspire Awards 2025, and has featured in the Tatler Wedding Guide 2025.
It has also been ranked among the top resorts in the Indian Ocean in several Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards, and in 2020 it was named Best Resort in the Indian Ocean and one of the top three resorts in the world.
