What Makes This New Mrs Dalloway at HOME Manchester Worth Seeing?

Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway is coming to HOME Manchester from 24–26 September 2026 in a bold new stage adaptation combining theatre, film and immersive storytelling. The production has already won strong reviews in Chester, Harlow and London. Here are five things to know before booking.

1. This is not a traditional adaptation of Mrs Dalloway

Co-created by director Jen Heyes and Olivier Award-winning writer and performer Kit Green, the production takes Virginia Woolf’s famous novel and reshapes it for the stage.

The story still follows Clarissa Dalloway across one extraordinary day, but this version mixes live performance, film and striking visual ideas to explore memory, identity, love and loss.

2. Kit Green plays Clarissa – and much more

Kit Green takes the central role of Clarissa Dalloway, while also bringing a number of other characters to life.

Green’s work spans theatre, cabaret, music, comedy and broadcasting, and previous performances have included everything from BBC Radio 4 appearances to major international theatre productions.

Critics have described Green’s performance in Mrs Dalloway as both “extraordinary” and “mesmerising”.

3. The production has already earned impressive reviews

The show has previously played at Storyhouse Chester, Harlow Playhouse and Wilton’s Music Hall in London.

Reviews have praised its inventive approach to Woolf’s novel, with the production described as intoxicating, surprising and highly theatrical.

Director Jen Heyes says one of the most satisfying responses from audiences has been hearing people say: “I wasn’t expecting that.”

4. There are only three Manchester performances

Mrs Dalloway ends its inaugural tour with just three performances at HOME Manchester.
