Big Red, the project led by Joseph Scarisbrick of The Orchestra (For Now), has announced its debut album Big Sur, alongside new single “Mission St.” and a UK headline tour this November. Here are five things to know.
1. Big Sur arrives on 30 October
The 10-track debut was written between London and Santa Cruz, California, during the first months of 2025. The record centres on distance, longing and the idea of California as a place that feels both real and just out of reach.
2. “Mission St.” gives the first real taste of the album
The new single moves between delicate guitar picking and bigger, warmer power chords. Scarisbrick calls it “a sad song masquerading as an upbeat loud banger”, with the song inspired by someone from his childhood.
3. The album was recorded live in the room
Big Sur was captured in Devon with the three musicians playing together, using very few overdubs or studio effects. That gives the record a rawer, more immediate feel, with small imperfections deliberately left in.
4. Big Red is now a full three-piece
What began as Scarisbrick’s space for songs that sat outside The Orchestra (For Now) has developed into a band with drummer Charlie Hancock and bassist/vocalist Millie Kirby.
5. A UK headline tour follows in November
Big Red will play Edinburgh, Leeds, Bristol, Manchester, Sheffield, Brighton, London and Southampton, including a London date at The Greyhound on 19 November.
