The acclaimed musical Woody Sez: The Life & Music of Woody Guthrie returns to London for the first time in more than a decade, playing Underbelly Boulevard Soho from 8 to 19 September 2026.
1. It tells the story of Woody Guthrie through his own words and songs
The show draws on Guthrie’s autobiographical writing, letters, diaries and newspaper columns to follow his life through the Dust Bowl, the Great Depression and the political upheavals of twentieth-century America.
2. More than two dozen Woody Guthrie songs feature in the show
Live music is at the heart of the production, with Guthrie’s songs woven through stories about his travels, friendships, hardships and political beliefs.
3. Four actor-musicians play more than 20 instruments
David M. Lutken reprises the role of Woody Guthrie alongside David Finch, Nyssa Grant and Raquel Chavez, with instruments passing between the performers throughout the 80-minute show.
4. It arrives in London after an acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe return
The production has previously enjoyed more than 80 productions worldwide, including runs in London, New York, Europe, China and the Middle East. Its 2026 Edinburgh Fringe performances also received a string of five-star reviews.
5. It is only in Soho for a short run
Woody Sez plays at Underbelly Boulevard, 6 Walker’s Court, Soho, London W1F 0BT, from 8 to 19 September, with evening performances at 7pm and additional weekend matinees.
