Missing a grade 4 in GCSE English or Maths can be frustrating, but you still have plenty of options.
1. You will usually continue studying it
If you stay in education or training, you will normally keep studying English or Maths until you achieve the required standard.
2. You may be able to resit in November
GCSE English Language and Maths can be retaken in November, with another chance the following summer.
3. You can still go to college
Many college courses accept students without a grade 4, although you may need to study English or Maths alongside your main course.
4. GCSE is not always the immediate next step
Some students may take another qualification first, depending on their grade and what their college recommends.
5. One result does not decide what happens next
Lots of students improve their grade after Year 11. Speak to your school or college, check the entry requirements for your course and make a clear resit plan.
The main thing: not passing first time does not mean you are stuck. There is usually a route forward.
